Time is Precious
Driving in silence to work this morning, I had a realization of sorts. It may seem bizarre, because it is ultra simple, but it matters...a lot. My time is precious. When I give my time to someone who isn't for my highest good, I resent my wasted time. So unless I leave that exchange replenished, not drained, I'm out. Life is too short to waste time-mine or yours.
Time is the very best and most significant gift we can give someone. If you are a busy person (Who am I kidding? Aren't we all busy people??), then you have little free time to spare. What little time you do have is typically spent fulfilling obligations.. errands and such. When you choose people, places or things to consume your time, choose wisely. These things should, ideally, leave you feeling replenished, not drained.
Have you ever left an experience with someone and just felt so exhausted by the exchange that you literally feel like you need a nap?? It's not supposed to be like that. When someone is "right" for you, you leave them feeling replenished. Even on their worst day, helping them isn't a burden because these are your true, most best people.
I am so grateful for the people in my life who leave me feeling replenished. The people who get me, who share their joys and their sorrows, but no one is burdened by the exchange. We love and support each other without judgement. That is so special!
It took me a long time to understand that relationships, of any kind, shouldn't drain you. Every relationship we have is a choice. Even family. We have the right to cultivate our friends and family. We have the right to say goodbye to those who drain us. In fact, it's necessary.
Thank you for gifting me your time by reading this. I appreciate you.
