All people leave a mark on your life
Life is funny.
People come in and out of our lives, in all different kinds of ways. Sometimes they stay and sometimes they go. No matter how long or short their presence, there is always something to be learned from your interaction with them.
Look at the snarly Editor, who rudely judged my writing, for example. She inspired me to write more and to be kind, especially when it's hard. I also got to see a side of my biggest supporters that truly touches my heart. Friends and family, writing to her, addressing her poor behaviour. I am so deeply grateful to have these kinds of people in my corner.
Sometimes crappy things happen and it feels completely impossible to see the good in the moment, but later something beautiful happens as a result. That's where the magic is. I like to believe that the above mentioned Editor was also able to gain something positive from the unfavorable interaction. Perhaps she will stop and consider her words next time she receives a "garbage" submission. See? Lessons learned, all around!
Someone recently told me that growth comes when we are uncomfortable. Stop and really process that thought for a moment. What did you learn when something was easy? Very little. What did you learn when you were uncomfortable? What you like and dislike, what you want and don't want in your life, what to avoid going forward, or what you really need to sink your teeth into to improve. Growth comes when we are challenged and pushed outside of our comfort zone. Even the cruddiest people we encounter promote growth within us.
So, thank you, to all of the people in, or out, of my life. Thank you to the cruddiest of crud and the most exceptional and lovely. You have all played a role in my life and that matters.
