Expressions and their gender

Lately I find myself paying a lot closer attention to expressions. Expressions that we casually use every day and give very little thought to their true meaning or origin. I've also been noticing how often we assign a gender to an insult, or at minimum, imply one.

The other day I heard a man call a teenage boy a "whiny little girl". I instantly felt insulted for this tired kid and also insulted for girls. Period. Whining is not a female behavior. It is a human one! Assigning a gender to an insult to imply weakness, or strength, needs to stop!

Please excuse my language for the following: Telling someone to stop acting "like a pussy" is actually a compliment! Those gals were made to birth babies! Telling someone to stop acting "like a bitch", although you know they mean "woman", really means "female dog". Either way, STILL a compliment! Telling someone to "Man up" is simply laughable. Does that mean to suppress my emotions and stomp around until someone strokes my ego?! Ooopsie...my feminism is showing.

I am so tired of women being regarded as the weaker sex in any capacity. I am tired of boys being told that they "throw like a girl" if they don't pitch a no-hitter, or that they "run like a girl" if they're slow. It's so unreasonable to judge and stereotype genders based on extremely out-dated ways of thinking.

I feel strongly that I have a lot more to say here, but for now I will leave you with this- How will we ever actually reach equality if this is how we talk to each other?! How will we ever be equal if women are weak and men are strong? If women have emotions and men cannot? Don't get me started on double standards!
