Over-Corrections
I've been thinking a lot about how we often overcorrect a situation before we actually simply correct it. How there is such a push to raise up women, but often at the detriment of men. How we ultimately want equality (Do we not??) but things are simply unequal, differently now.
If being in the military requires the same work, both physically and mentally, of all genders, then why isn't there 1 way of testing?
If there is an emergency, I want the best person for the job there to help. I want any gender person, who passed the standard tests, to be there.
We are so busy being inclusive that we are letting go of important pieces of the puzzle. We are letting go of safety to insure opportunity. We are letting go of logic to fight for equality. It's not "equal" if you took a different test to get there!
I believe in equal rights. I believe in providing all of the opportunities to everyone, but I do not believe in creating a different test(s) to get there.
Some personalities are better for certain jobs, just as different fitness levels are better suited for others. It's not even about gender. It's about everyone having different things to offer; Having different strengths, different insights and different skill sets.
I think we try too hard to accommodate, when sometimes, accomodations come at a high cost. The most qualified human is who I want to see in any role.
I worry about my children existing in a world where we accommodate everyone to a fault. Where every feeling, big or small, is taken so seriously and drastic measures are made to ensure no one ever feels uncomfortable. We grow in the uncomfortable moments! There is perhaps no better opportunity to learn!
Dress codes were taken out of schools because of cases where teenage girls felt shamed for their attire and/or their bodies. So now, students can come to school with shorts the length of very brief underwear and tops that are actually bras. Such a perfect example of how society tried to overcorrect a problem and ultimately created new ones.
I never thought I would say this, but-bring back dress codes in schools! Or better yet-bring uniforms to public school!
There is so much that we could be doing better. That we need to be doing better. I hope and pray that this generation sees the faults and over-corrections and tries to bring it back to a more logical place, because right now, things are a mess.
